Glitch with 911 call system in Ventura County has been repaired
People calling 911 from the Verizon Wireless network were experiencing technical problems that prevented them from communicating with dispatchers in Ventura County, the Sheriff’s Department said.
The issue was fixed as of Tuesday at 1:30 p.m, the department said.
“Our thanks go out to the dedicated teams at AT&T and Verizon for their swift action and collaboration to ensure our emergency services are back up and running smoothly,” the department said in the afternoon update.
A Ventura County sheriff’s spokesperson said Verizon customers who called 911 Tuesday morning were connected, but were unable to hear dispatchers responding to them.
The issue started as early as 8:45 a.m., Sgt. Monica Smith said.
Verizon is one of the nation’s largest wireless carriers with more than 114 million subscribers.
