Federal authorities investigating plane crash that killed two near Chino Airport
A small plane carrying two people crashed shortly after departing Chino Airport around 12:35 p.m. Saturday, according to the Federal Aviation Administration.
The aircraft was a twin-engine Lockheed 12A, said FAA spokeswoman Mina Kaji. The FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board are investigating, Kaji said.
A spokesperson for the Chino Valley Fire District said two people died in the crash, ABC7 reported. No other people were on board the World War II-era plane, and those who died have not been identified.
A witness told the TV station that the two men who were killed were a part of a Father’s Day event at the Yanks Air Museum.
An NTSB spokesman said Saturday that an investigator is expected to be on scene Sunday to begin documenting the site and examining the aircraft. The wreckage will then be recovered and taken to a secure facility for further evaluation.
