The body of an 86-year-old man who recently went missing was found under a bridge near an aqueduct in Lancaster early last week, and the search for his brother has been called off for now.

The man’s 78-year-old brother, authorities said, was still missing Sunday after officials with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department searched the aqueduct, hoping to find the man.

Investigators and divers conducted searches last week for Grigor Khacheryan, who went missing along with brother Minas Khacheryan on Sept. 29. Another search was conducted Sunday of the aqueduct in Lancaster.

“Despite their efforts, Deputy personnel were unable to locate the missing person,” the department said in a news release. “Additional searches may occur pending additional information.”

Minas Khacheryan and his younger brother, Grigor, were reported missing Sept. 29 by family.

Sheriff’s officials said the two had been last seen that morning in the 1000 block of East Chevy Chase Drive in Glendale. By Oct. 2, officials said the two had been spotted fishing near the California Aqueduct.

Family reported being concerned for the two. Grigor Khacheryan recently had open-heart surgery.

Minas Khacheryan’s body was spotted Monday under a bridge at 195th Street West and West Avenue G in the aqueduct in Lancaster.

The cause of his death was still under investigation, officials said, but no foul play was suspected.
