Teen arrested, 2 others questioned in double stabbing outside Los Angeles High
One juvenile was arrested and another was detained along with an adult Tuesday in the stabbing of two teenagers outside Los Angeles High School, according to L.A. police.
As many as 10 people were involved in the Monday afternoon attack, L.A. Police Chief Michel Moore said at Tuesday’s meeting of the Los Angeles Police Commission.
The stabbing occurred at around 4:20 p.m. outside L.A.’s oldest public high school, in the Mid-Wilshire neighborhood near Olympic and Rimpau boulevards. The LAPD said Monday the incident was the result of an “on-campus dispute.”
School police had been near the campus as part of the “safe passage” program, which provides patrols before and after school, but left shortly before the stabbing to respond to a report that a gun had been found at another campus, L.A. School Police Department officials said.
Just before the attack, the group of around 10 hopped out of two cars, a black Toyota and a red Cadillac, which have since been found, Moore said.
A 14-year-old boy and a 17-year-old boy — neither of whom were students at the school — were detained late Monday along with an unidentified adult, according to police.
The victims, 15 and 16 years old, were hospitalized with stab wounds to the upper back, right arm and right leg, according to Moore. Both were expected to survive. One of the victims was a student at the high school, the Police Department said in a statement.
After a third person was viciously stabbed in less than a week, Davis police conducted a yard-to-yard search for the assailant but came up empty-handed.
The 17-year-old who was detained was found with a concealed gun, Moore said.
Police recovered two knives and two handguns, Moore said.
The LAPD said one juvenile had been arrested on suspicion of firearm possession inside a vehicle, the second juvenile was released, and the adult was questioned and then released. The investigation was ongoing as of Tuesday afternoon.
