One person was killed Saturday night in the crash of a single-engine plane near Mulholland Drive in Los Angeles’ Beverly Crest neighborhood, the L.A. Fire Department said.

The single-engine Cessna C172 crashed southeast of Van Nuys Airport around 8 p.m., according to the LAFD. Only the pilot was on board.

After a search hampered by heavy fog, fire crews discovered the wreckage and victim around 11:30 p.m. in the 3000 block of Beverly Glen Circle, according to the LAFD. Shortly afterward, the pilot was confirmed dead.

The pilot was identified as Alon Inditzky, a 38-year-old resident of Woodland Hills, according to the Los Angeles County coroner’s office.

The plane was reported missing by an air traffic controller, the LAFD said. Air traffic controllers, the Air Force and the pilot’s cellphone carrier were also involved in the effort to locate the missing aircraft.

The plane was en route from Bermuda Dunes near Palm Desert to Camarillo Airport, but it diverted to Van Nuys Airport and was then reported missing, authorities said.
