Crane collapses at SoFi Stadium construction site in Inglewood; no one hurt

Authorities are investigating the collapse of a crane at the construction site of SoFi Stadium in Inglewood.

The Los Angeles County Fire Department received a report of the collapse of a large crane shortly before 8 a.m. in the 1000 block of South Prairie Avenue, Marvin Lim, a department spokesman, said Friday.

No injuries were reported, he said.

A crane that was being moved struck the boom of a stationary crane, causing that second crane to collapse, the Fire Department said.

Video from the scene appeared to show the equipment fell into a dirt lot next to the stadium, not far from a parking lot.

Turner AECOM Hunt, the general contractor, said in a statement that the collapse resulted in minor property damage but none to the stadium itself. The incident is not expected to not affect the stadium’s scheduled completion date.

“Turner AECOM Hunt works extremely hard to create a safe work environment on site,” the statement said. “A thorough investigation is underway.”

The California Division of Occupational Safety & Health also is investigating, a public information officer said.

SoFi Stadium, the new, 70,000-seat home of the Rams and Chargers, is set to open with a Taylor Swift concert in late July. At an estimated cost of $5 billion, it ranks as the priciest venue — by far — in NFL history.
