Unboxing the Samsung Galaxy S5 and Gear Fit [Video]

The Samsung Galaxy S5 and the Gear Fit will make their U.S. debuts on Friday.

The GS5 is the latest version of Samsung’s flagship phone, while the Gear Fit is a brand new product aimed at consumers who are interested in tracking their fitness.

The GS5 features a 5.1-inch full 1080p HD display, a 16-megapixel camera, runs Android 4.4 KitKat and uses a 2.5-gigahertz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor. The device also features a fingerprint scanner and a heart rate monitor.

The new Samsung smartphone will be available for $199.99 with a two-year contract from AT&T and Sprint. Verizon customers can get the device for $249.99 with a two-year contract -- they can then get $50 back by mailing in a rebate form. AT&T, Sprint and Verizon also offer monthly payment plans for the device.

Currently, T-Mobile customers can preorder the GS5 from the carrier for no down payment, followed by 24 monthly payments of $27.50, or a total of $660.

The Gear Fit is a $199 device that users wear on their wrists. The gadget functions as both a fitness tracker and a light version of a smartwatch.

The device includes a pedometer and a heart rate monitor, so it can be used to track how active a user is as well as their heart rate. The Gear Fit’s 1.83-inch screen flashes alerts any time users receive a new notification on their Samsung smartphone. The Gear Fit is the first mobile product released in the U.S. by Samsung to include a curved OLED screen.

In addition to the GS5 and the Gear Fit, Samsung will also begin selling the Gear 2 and Gear 2 Neo smartwatches on Friday.
