Google, HP halt sales of Chromebook 11 because of faulty chargers

Google and HP have stopped selling the Chromebook 11 laptop because of problems with its charger.

The two companies issued a joint statement Wednesday morning after Best Buy and other retailers began pulling the Chrome OS laptop from their stores and off their websites.

The tech giants explained that they have received “a small number” of reports of the Chromebook 11’s charger being damaged from overheating while in use.

“We are working with the Consumer Product Safety Commission to identify the appropriate corrective action, and will provide additional information and instructions as soon as we can,” Google said in a blog post.

The companies are asking people who have purchased the Chromebook 11 to not use the charger that came with it.

Instead, the Chromebook 11 can be charged with other Underwriters Laboratories-listed micro-USB chargers, which typically come with Android smartphones and tablets. However, during our review of the laptop, those chargers took a long time to fully charge the device.

Neither Google nor HP have said when sales of the laptop will resume.
