Grandest pool around? Malibu has the one to beat
Of all the magnificent houses in the Los Angeles-area for sale right now, La Villa Contenta in Malibu is a front-runner for the grandest indoor pool.
Recently reduced to $54 million and encompassing about eight acres, the Mediterranean estate was built in 2002 and imbued with a formal old-world style. Yet underlying the design is a tremendous sense of fun.
How else can one explain the skylight-topped indoor swimming pool ballroom with colorful ceiling medallions, wall murals, ornate chandeliers, columns and French doors that slide away? Sprays of water arch into the pool to make it seem more like a fountain when not in use. Several seating areas increase the room’s functionality for everyday use or large-scale gatherings.

The compound includes an outdoor pool with a pool house, a guesthouse and office space. There are ponds, an infinity pool, a theater and a tennis court, plus ocean and mountain views.
The gated bluff top can be leased at $65,000 a month. Summer leasing is an option at a rate of $200,000 a month for the entire summer or more for just one month. Listing agents include Maya Hazen and Aaron Kirman of John Aaroe Group and Chris Cortazzo of Coldwell Banker’s Malibu West office.
