David Arquette is ready to part with his well-traveled home in Windsor Square
Actor and producer David Arquette is ready to move on from his historic home in central L.A. that also has history when it comes to moving.
Named the O’Melveny House for its original owner — prominent attorney and former dean of the California bar Henry O’Melveny — the stately Craftsman was built in 1909 on Wilshire Boulevard in what is now Koreatown. Two decades later, the O’Melveny family had the house moved to its current location in Windsor Square to be closer to friends.
Now up for sale at $8.495 million, the restored Los Angeles Historic-Cultural monument designed by Sumner Hunt of Hunt, Eager & Burns retains its vintage good looks. Handcrafted mahogany doors give way to a wood-paneled foyer topped with painted and beamed ceilings. Six wood-burning fireplaces evoke a bygone era.
Within the 9,708 square feet of refined interiors are formal living and dining rooms, a den, a family room, a bar, seven bedrooms and eight bathrooms. A chef’s kitchen features a butler’s pantry and a broad marble-topped island/bar.
His and hers closets, a rarity in early-1900s homes, highlight the master suite. A game/recreation room is on the third floor.
Landscaped grounds of three-quarters of an acre are filled with mature trees, lawn, a meditation pond and swimming pool and spa. A large outdoor fireplace sits by the pool.
Jonah Wilson of Hilton & Hyland, an affiliate of Christie’s International Real Estate, holds the listing.
Arquette, 44, has film credits that include the “Scream” film franchise, “Eight Legged Freaks” (2002) and “Never Been Kissed” (1999). He served as an executive producer of the TV series “Cougar Town” throughout the show’s run, from 2009 to 2015.
He bought the house in 2014 for $7.15 million, records show.
Warlock sells off another lair
Actor and self-proclaimed warlock Charlie Sheen has divested himself of another Los Angeles-area home, selling a Spanish-style house in the Mulholland Estates area for $5.415 million. He had asked for as much as $6.099 million for the house.
The 6,625-square-foot home came up for sale in January, about a month after the former “Two and a Half Men” star sold another property in the same community for $6.6 million.
Sitting against a hillside, the roughly 1-acre estate features multiple outdoor living spaces, a swimming pool and spa and a turf play area. A fenced tennis court also lies within the hedged grounds, and a gated courtyard sits off the front entrance.
Inside, there are living and dining rooms, a movie theater, an office, five bedrooms and 4.5 bathrooms. A chef’s kitchen has a center island. There are fireplaces in the living room, den and master suite.
Sheen bought the house four years ago for $4.8 million from Detroit Pistons owner Tom Gores. Other former owners include Paradigm Talent Agency Chairman Sam Gores and his ex-wife, actress Jensen Buchanan.
Sheen, 50, has starred in such television comedies as “Spin City” and, most recently, “Anger Management.” He is one of Martin Sheen’s sons.

Ready for a change of scenery
Singer-actress Mandy Moore has put her home in the Los Feliz area of Los Angeles for sale at $3.199 million — nearly double what she paid for the property more than a decade ago.
Moore bought the gated Mediterranean in late 2002, roughly seven months removed from her 18th birthday, for $1.725 million, The Times previously reported.
Built in 1927, the clay-shingled two-story retains its classic good looks while incorporating a number of modern details. Graceful arches, distressed beams and inlaid wood floors are among the interior features. In the entry, detailed wrought-iron work wraps the original magnesite stairs.
A step-down living room with a tiled fireplace, a dining area, a sitting room and a chef’s kitchen with butcher-block counters lie within more than 4,700 square feet of interiors. The master suite has a private balcony that overlooks the grounds, for a total of five bedrooms and 4.25 bathrooms.
French doors off the living room open to a wide flagstone patio. Elsewhere, wood stairs lead through gardens and sitting areas and past mature fruit trees. A two-car garage sits off the front of the home.

Moore, 32, rose to fame in the late 1990s with her debut album, “So Real,” which spawned the hit single “Candy.” She has released six studio albums, most recently “Amanda Leigh” in 2009.
As an actress, she has appeared in such films as “Dr. Dolittle 2” (2001), “A Walk to Remember” (2002) and “Love, Wedding, Marriage” (2011). She has a lead role in the upcoming thriller “47 Meters Down.”
QB completes an off-field pass
An uncertain future isn’t getting in the way of Philip Rivers’ off-field plans.
The San Diego Chargers’ starting quarterback recently purchased an 8-acre plot in Rancho Santa Fe, Calif., for $4.7 million. The seller was Stanley Westreich, founder of Westfield Realty Inc.
Found within Rancho del Lago, a gated community of about 40 large-lot estates, the gradually sloping site takes in views extending from the surrounding mountains to La Jolla, as well as a nearby reservoir.
The previous owner had commissioned Encinitas-based architect Don Edson to design plans for a 27,000-square-foot residence for the site, according to the listing details.
Westreich, through a limited liability company, bought the property in 2007 for $9.6 million, records show.
On and off the market for the last six years, the lot was first listed for sale in 2010 for $10 million. More recently, it was priced at $5.75 million.
Jason Barry of Barry Estates was the listing agent. Shaun Worthen of Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices represented the buyer in the sale, which closed last month.
Rivers, 34, was “fired up” after chairman Dean Spanos announced in January that the San Diego franchise would remain in San Diego for at least the 2016 season. The Chargers have an option to join the Los Angeles Rams in Inglewood next year but remain committed to finding a solution in the city they have called home since 1960.
A five-time Pro Bowler, Rivers completed a career-high 437 passes for San Diego in 2015, finishing the season with 4,792 yards and 29 touchdowns through the air. Last year, he agreed to a four-year extension with $65 million guaranteed that will keep him with the team through 2019.
He owns other property in San Diego County.
He’s ready to let go of his space
Aber Whitcomb, a co-founder of the social network Myspace, is looking to connect with a buyer in Venice. He’s put his house in the Marina Peninsula area up for sale at $3.3 million.
The multistory home, originally built in 1928 and since renovated and expanded, offers a mix of classic and contemporary styles.
Details of note include walls of glass doors and windows, arched doorways and rolled and vaulted ceilings. Painted beams and accent walls provide visual interest in other parts of the 1,839-square-foot home, while a modern steel staircase connects each floor.
Among common areas are a living room with a painted vintage fireplace, a pink-hued dining room and a modern kitchen. Skylights top a light-filled family room area, which opens to a courtyard.
Occupying the entire second floor, the monochromatic master suite has a fireplace and a balcony with a view of the coastline and Venice Pier. There are three bedrooms and two bathrooms in all.
A rooftop deck with a built-in bar, a wine fridge and a fire pit completes the laid-back setting.
Whitcomb, who last year sold another home in Hollywood Hills, bought the house a decade ago for $2.45 million.
