At $28.9 million, Manhattan Beach listing expected to set price record

A Manhattan Beach home listed for $28.9 million is expected to set a price record for the community and would be among the priciest home sales historically across L.A.’s South Bay.

The Craftsman-style home in the 1000 block of the Strand features an oversized corner lot with south-facing views of the Manhattan Beach Pier and surrounding coastline. There are nine bedrooms and eight bathrooms in 5,967 square feet of living space.

Sold at or near its asking price, the home would set a high-water mark for single-family residences in the area by a wide margin. Last year, a 4,893-square-foot home in the 1900 block of the Strand sold for $15.75 million. Two other Manhattan Beach homes, both sold off-market, hold the top price point at $16 million, records show.

It would also best the recent sale of a house in the 1900 block of the Strand in Hermosa Beach. The double-lot property sold in April for $15 million, making it the highest sale for that community.

Owned in the same family for more than 60 years, the seller’s father bought the property in 1955 for $35,000, according to Re/Max Estate Properties agent Victoria Beck, who holds the listing with Robert Schumann of Real Estate West.

In 2014, based on 399 sales, the median price for single-family homes in Manhattan Beach was $1.9 million, up 15.2% from the previous year, according to CoreLogic.
