Former baseball star Jimmy Rollins slides into newly built Encino home
Former professional baseball player Jimmy Rollins has circled the bases on his second home purchase in as many years, buying a newly built Encino showplace through a corporate entity for $8.7 million, records show.
Rollins, the 2007 National League Most Valuable Player, made headlines a year ago when he paid $10.65 million for another home in the area. The sale set a new price record for the San Fernando Valley community.
The new house, set behind fences and gates on a roomy half-acre, packs a smattering of amenities into its 11,000 square feet of living space. Among features of note are multiple indoor and outdoor bars, an elevator and a media room with a candy wall. A two-way floor-to-ceiling fireplace splits the living and dining rooms.
Including the guest house, there are nine bedrooms and 10.75 bathrooms.
Multiple balconies and a 3,000-square-foot rooftop deck create additional living space outdoors. A zero-edge swimming pool with waterfall feature and a spa sits between the main house and guest house.
The property came up for sale in October. Dennis Chernov of Keller Williams Realty had the listing, according to the Multiple Listing Service.
Rollins, 40, is a three-time All-Star and four-time Gold Glove Award-winner who played 17 seasons for the Philadelphia Phillies, Dodgers and Chicago White Sox. He was part of the Philadelphia team that won a World Series title in 2007.
