Brian Doyle-Murray gets his price and more for storybook home in Mar Vista
Actor Brian Doyle-Murray has turned a tidy profit from the sale of his Mar Vista home.
Listed for sale in late April for $1.589 million, the 1920s cottage in the Hilltop neighborhood went under contract in about two weeks and closed for $1.676 million — $87,000 over the asking price. Not bad considering Doyle-Murray and his wife, assistant director Christina Stauffer, bought the house six years ago for $1.225 million.
Shaded by mature trees, the 1,945-square-foot home evokes a country farmhouse with red siding, black shutters and crisp white trim. Stone paths lead past a white picket fence and through gardens to the arched front porch.
A living room with a fireplace, a den/office, an eat-in kitchen and two bathrooms make up the floor plan. A sun room has French doors that open to a koi pond and waterfall.
Outdoors, there’s a deck with built-in seating, a detached garage and a separate office/gym.
Kathleen Carter of Gibson International was the listing agent. Dale Ross of Playa Vista Real Estate represented the buyer.
Doyle-Murray, 70, has appeared in such film comedies as “Caddyshack” (1980), “Groundhog Day” (1993) and “Wayne’s World” (1992). More recently, he appeared in the television sitcoms “Sullivan & Son” and “The Middle.”
He is the older brother of actor Bill Murray.
Stauffer has credits that include “Dante’s Peak” (1997), “The Cider House Rules” (1999) and “Magnolia” (1999).
