Taco Bell’s latest menu item: The waffle taco
A breakfast burrito is pretty humdrum these days, but do you have any interest in a waffle taco?
That’s what Taco Bell is trying to figure out at some of its Southern California restaurants.
So for a cost of 89 cents, breakfast seekers can get a fried waffle wrapped around a scrambled egg and a sausage patty, drizzled with maple syrup.

In a statement, Rob Poetsch, a Taco Bell spokesman, said the company is testing the waffle taco in a handful of Southern California restaurants.
“We’re pleased with the initial reaction from our customers and if the waffle taco does well in testing, we’ll roll it out to all our restaurants that serve breakfast,” he said.
Earlier this year, Taco Bell began offering its FirstMeal menu, which has options like bacon-and-egg burritos and fried dough balls with cream filling.

As the L.A. Times’ Daily Dish blog reported Monday, the waffle taco is being tested after the success of Doritos Locos tacos, which feature taco shells with the nacho cheese and cool ranch flavors of the popular chip brand.
Irvine-based Taco Bell has sold more than 350 million Doritos Nacho Cheese tacos, which it considers the most successful product launch in it’s 51-year history.
