Twitter requires password resets after hack advertises stolen accounts
Twitter has locked some accounts and asked other users to reset passwords after a hacker offered to sell millions of log-ins earlier this week.
Users whose accounts have been locked must go through a verification process before they can log into the social media platform. The company has notified affected users by email.
Twitter said Thursday that it is confident the data advertised by Tessa88, a hacker associated with recent data leaks on LinkedIn and MySpace, wasn’t due to a breach in its system. The San Francisco-company said in a statement that it was checking its information against what’s being sold online but has not yet commented on the validity of the data.
The hacker is reportedly selling information pertaining to 379 million Twitter accounts for 10 bitcoins, which is just under $6,000.
