Jell-O sends free Super Bowl consolation pudding to 49ers fans
No need for booze: Disappointed devotees of the losing San Francisco 49ers can drown their Super Bowl sorrows in free Jell-O Pudding.
The Kraft brand said it will send thousands of cups gratis to the city by the bay on Tuesday to help soothe distraught football fans.
Drop sites are posted on the Jell-O Pudding Drop’s website. The treats will be available around the city at locations such as Chinatown and Lombard Street at various times throughout the day.
“Nothing masks the bitter taste of defeat like the sweet taste of Jell-O,” a spokesman says in a YouTube video posted Sunday night. Jell-O has been jiggling around since 1897.
Fans of the 49ers visiting Jell-O’s Facebook profile were bemused by the gimmick … but still stung by the defeat.
“How thoughtful, but I’m sure they would rather have a victory parade,” wrote Facebook user Cathy Lopez Ledbetter.
Jell-O is far from the first food brand to peg a freebie to a major sports event. This fall, Taco Bell gave out free Doritos Locos Tacos around the country after the San Francisco Giants beat out the Detroit Tigers in the World Series.
