Lamborghini tears roof off its multimillion-dollar Veneno hypercar
Lamborghini fans kicking themselves for missing out on the wild Veneno launched last spring will get a second chance at the multimillion-dollar hypercar in 2014, the automaker has announced.
And this time, it’ll be a roadster.
The Italian supercar company has disclosed it will make “not more than nine” copies of the ultra-fast Veneno Roadster for 2014. The car is the roofless (yet street-legal) version of the Veneno coupe that Lamborghini unveiled at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show. Only three copies of that car were built.

Like the fixed-roof version, the Veneno Roadster is loosely based on Lamborghini’s more common Aventador. This means the all-wheel-drive Veneno uses a 6.5-liter V-12 engine to wring out 750 horsepower. Power is fed to all four wheels via a seven-speed automated manual transmission.
The Roadster comes with no roof whatsoever, so buyers will need to outrun the rain. With a zero-to-62 mph time of 2.9 seconds, and a top speed of 221 mph, this shouldn’t be too hard. The car’s dry weight (without fluids or fuel) is 3,278 pounds, Lamborghini said.
The Veneno Roadster’s body and chassis are all carbon fiber, and the specially-designed alloy wheels use a carbon fiber ring around the rim to channel cool air to the carbon-ceramic brakes. The default color will be the brilliant Rosso Veneno red seen above, though Lamborghini said buyers will be able to customize the color to their preferences.
At the price this car commands, they had better. Nothing Lamborghini builds is particularly cheap, but this Roadster will be pricey even by the brand’s standards. Figure at least $4.4 million to slide into the carbon fiber cockpit of one of these ultra-rare cars.
