Jeep recalls 92,000 2014 Grand Cherokees for warning light problem

Jeep is recalling nearly 92,000 of its Grand Cherokee SUVs to fix an issue with the vehicles’ warning lights and instrument panel.

The recall affects 91,559 Grand Cherokees in the U.S. from the 2014 model year, according to Jeep’s parent company, Chrysler Group. Another 41,000 vehicles in Canada, Mexico and abroad are affected.

At the center of the recall are a series of warning lights that turn on at random while the instrument panel experiences a blackout, Chrysler said in a statement.

Engineers discovered that the problem was caused by a control module in the Jeeps’ anti-lock braking system.

“The issue also has implications for the vehicle’s ABS and electronic stability control systems, but Chrysler Group is unaware of any reported problems involving either,” Chrysler said.

Chrysler is unaware of any accidents or injuries related to the issue with these Jeeps.

To correct the issue, dealers will update the vehicles’ software at no charge to the customer.

The recall will begin in November. Affected owners will be notified by mail.
