Walter Kirn on ‘Blood Will Out’ and a friendly psychopath [Video]

Walter Kirn’s novels have been made into films (“Up in the Air,” “Thumbsucker”), but his most recent book is nonfiction. Part memoir, part true crime, “Blood Will Out: The True Story of a Murder, a Mystery and a Masquerade” is currently climbing our bestseller list.

Kirn sat down during the Festival of Books to talk about “Blood Will Out” and its subject, the man he knew as Clark Rockefeller, a fascinating and dangerous impostor. The story is definitely a case of truth being stranger than fiction.

At the festival, we asked authors about their lives and choices as writers, and even made an online game so you can play along. As someone who is having great success with his latest nonfiction book, Kirn could continue on that path. But he’s returning to fiction, he explains. “I want relief from the bizarre nature of real life,” he says.
