Should Hermione Granger have gotten together with Ron Weasley? J.K. Rowling used to think so -- but now it appears she’s changed her mind.

Fuller details are forthcoming in an interview that the Sunday Times is trumpeting with the headline: “JK Admits Harry Should Have Wed Hermione.”

“I wrote the Hermione/Ron relationship as a form of wish fulfillment. That’s how it was conceived, really. For reasons that have very little to do with literature and far more to do with me clinging to the plot as I first imagined it, Hermione ended up with Ron,” Rowling explains.

The interview is conducted by Emma Watson -- the actress who played Hermione -- and appears in an upcoming issue of Wonderland magazine. That issue, which Watson guest edited, is slated to go online Thursday.

According to the Potter fans at Mugglenet, the Sunday Times tells the story in two different ways. “The printed article suggests that only Emma believes Harry and Hermione would’ve made the better match, whilst the online article states both actress and author agree,” they write.

Fans of Harry Potter began debating and reimaginging Rowling’s choices when the first Harry Potter book was published in England in 1997, and the 2007 conclusion of the series, “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows,” did nothing to stem those conversations. This latest twist, no doubt, will only fuel them.
