Caitlyn Jenner signs book deal, will write memoir with Buzz (‘Friday Night Lights’) Bissinger
Caitlyn Jenner, America’s most famous transgendered person, will publish a memoir with Grand Central Publishing in spring 2017.
“Things have been moving so quickly that it will be nice to slow things down a bit and take the proper time to reflect on this journey,” Jenner said in a statement, of her decision to publish a memoir. “I couldn’t pick a better team, in Grand Central and Buzz [Bissinger], to make sure this story is told with a lot of honesty and care.”
The book, as yet untitled, will be co-written by bestselling author Bissinger, most famous for “Friday Night Lights.”
Jenner’s story is already well-known: As Olympic track star Bruce Jenner, he won the 1976 gold medal in the decathlon. That success led to a long, high-profile career as a former sports star, which eventually led to reality television.
Starting in 2007, Jenner appeared on “Keeping Up with the Kardashians” with stepchildren Kim, Kourtney, Khloe and Rob Kardashian, wife Kris Jenner, and their daughters Kylie and Kendall. After announcing her transition from male to female, Jenner launched her own reality television show, “I am Cait!” which begins its second season in March.
Bissinger, who wrote the Vanity Fair article which announced Jenner’s transition, believes there is more to be told. “I elected to do this with Caitlyn because of the opportunity to create a book that will be riveting, important and reveal all the complexities and twists and turns of her life from boyhood to transition,” he said in a release. “We both agree that nothing can be left out in capturing this unique and unprecedented journey. This is her story and I am proud to play a role in telling it with grace and candor.”
Grand Central VP Executive Editor Gretchen Young added: “Caitlyn Jenner’s story is not just a compelling memoir—it is an odyssey of courage and perseverance that represents an important chapter in our cultural evolution, and I am thrilled and honored to be working with both Caitlyn and Buzz Bissinger in bringing it to light.”
The book will be accompanied by an audiobook at its spring 2017 release.
