50,000 books to be donated to kids by Capital One
Sure, it’s the kind of thing a giant corporation does to spiff up its reputation. But if it puts 50,000 books in kids’ hands, it’s not all bad.
Capital One Bank is embarking on a winter promotion that will donate 50,000 books to schools across the country. The bank, through its Investing for Good project, has partnered with the nonprofits the Heart of America and Communities in Schools to create Book by Book.
For every “like” Investing for Good gets on Facebook, it will donate another book to Book by Book. So far, more than 4,000 of the 50,000 books have been donated.
Fill out an entry for the weekly contest, and another book drops into the donation pile for Book by Book. The weekly contest winners get a box of 30 kids’ books, and get to select a local school to receive a duplicate copy of the box.
Or you can enter for the grand prize, a custom home library designed by television host Taniya Nayak. If it looks anything like the one on the contest Facebook page, it’ll be pretty cool.
The contest continues through Nov. 25 -- a little more than four weeks are left to pile on the Likes and contest entries and move the tally of donated books to 50,000.
The company could just donate the books outright, of course, but they’ve chosen this contest method to make it happen.
