‘CSI: Miami’ rules the scene

CBS’ “CSI: Miami” became the first rerun to top the weekly prime-time viewership list this summer, drawing 11.18 million viewers last week, according to figures released Tuesday by Nielsen Media Research.

“CSI: Miami” benefited from weak competition. The two other major network programs opposite it -- reruns of the ABC unscripted series “Supernanny” and the NBC drama “Medium” -- combined to attract 9.94 million viewers. “CSI: Miami” also did not have to face programming from Fox, the WB or UPN in its Monday 10-11 p.m. time slot.

During the seven previous weeks of television’s summer season, two episodes of NBC’s “Deal or No Deal,” two NBA Finals games, two episodes of “America’s Got Talent” and baseball’s All-Star Game -- all first-run programs -- had topped the weekly ratings.

NBC’s coverage of the Miss Universe pageant from the Shrine Auditorium bucked the trend of declining viewership for beauty pageants by finishing third for the week with 9.65 million viewers, a 5% increase over last year’s 9.19 million, when it was shown May 30.

With six of the week’s most-watched programs, CBS was the most-watched network for the eighth consecutive week, averaging 7.1 million viewers for its prime-time programming.

The “NBC Nightly News” was the week’s most-watched network nightly newscast for the 105th time in the past 107 weeks, averaging 7.96 million viewers. ABC was second, CBS third.
