Kane Hodder, Movie Villain
* The actor, who has played Jason in the last four “Friday the 13th” movies, is the only person to play the role more than once. He’s also been a stuntman in “Gone in 60 Seconds,” “Batman Forever,” “Spawn” and “Enemy of the State.”
Sixth Sense: I never really get a chance to do it, but I enjoy going to places that are actually haunted. If I do an appearance around the country, I always ask the people if there are any real haunted places, ‘cause I always like to go there and see if I can experience anything. Last October, I did an appearance at an old stone penitentiary from the 1800s in downtown Philadelphia, and supposedly it’s haunted. I have a ghost of a small child in my house that I’ve seen twice. The first time, I saw this little kid that disappeared into the cabinet in my upstairs hallway. And I thought, “I haven’t been drinking or anything, so that’s pretty strange.” And then I saw him out of the corner of my eye one other time. It’s not an old house or anything, and I know the person that owned the house before me didn’t have any kids.
Rocky Road: I’ve shot various things out at Vasquez Rocks, which is on the way to Palmdale. I like the bizarre scenery out there. The rocks are all at crazy angles because of earth movement. It just looks like some place out of a movie, and that’s probably why they do so many movies there. I go rock climbing, but not the kind you see on TV where people are hanging on by their fingernails. I just like to climb up through the rocks.
Don’t Jump Off the Roof: The big stunt hangout is the Sagebrush Cantina out here in Calabasas. It used to be really rustic and it’s been updated a bit, but it’s still a big hangout for stunt people. Every time, I go there I see a stunt person that I know. It’s a casual, sawdust-on-the-floor type of place. They serve a lot of good Mexican food, burgers and beer. Gotta have that beer.
Slasher in the Back Row: My favorite theater in all of L.A. is Grauman’s Chinese, because I went to see the first Jason movie that I did there and the place was packed. There were crazy crowds, and it was just amazing to experience a movie like that. I also went to see the re-release of “The Exorcist” there, which is my all-time favorite movie.
Meditation Spot: There is a spot that I don’t want to pinpoint, because I don’t want a lot of other people to know about it. But it’s up Stunt Road, outside of Calabasas. And if you go up to the top of the mountain, there’s a little trail and on top, there’s an amazing, 360-degree view of the San Fernando Valley all the way to the ocean. They should have some sort of lookout built there, but they don’t, so nobody knows about it. That’s where I go to sit and dream up new ways of killing people for the films. I clear my head and think of nothing but cinematic violence.
