Parole Bid Denied for Serial Killer Son of Sam

David Berkowitz, the infamous serial killer Son of Sam, who went on a murder spree that sent New York into a panic in 1977, was denied his first bid for parole after serving 25 years in prison.
Berkowitz, 49, who is serving a 365-year prison term for killing six women and wounding seven others, has developed a reputation as a model prisoner but no one, including Berkowitz himself, expected him to be released.
“In your interview, you demonstrated limited understanding of the motivation and insight into your criminal behavior,” said a letter to Berkowitz from the New York State Division of Parole in Albany, notifying him that parole was denied.
Berkowitz, who called himself the Son of Sam, began his rampage in July 1976 and continued until his arrest in August 1977.
