* The actor who was Marisa Tomei’s abusive husband in “In the Bedroom” has also appeared in “Mission Impossible 2” and “Without Limits.”

“An Italian Straw Hat”: My ideal weekend would start with friends at the Silent Movie Theatre for Buster Keaton’s “The Navigator” and Rene Clair’s [1927 comedy] “An Italian Straw Hat.” They are really good about playing Keaton, Chaplin, Lloyd and D.W. Griffith, but I don’t think I’ve ever seen “An Italian Straw Hat” there. Silent film seems particularly suited to comedy.

Short People: Randy Newman is perhaps my favorite songwriter and, of course, he’s a quintessential L.A. musician. I love hearing him play and sometimes he has played in small L.A. venues. I saw him at the Wadsworth Theater. It would be great to hear him at a small, outdoor venue like on the patio at the Cat & Fiddle.

Kids on Loan: I like to borrow some kids from a friend or relative and go up to Griffith Park and play games with them. I like chase, hide-and-go-seek, and we take Frisbees and balls. I’ve been told that I am very good at being a 5-year-old. I have a couple of friends and a couple of relatives whose kids are in the right age range and, of course, the parents are more than willing to let me borrow them for a few hours.

“The Misanthrope”: On a perfect weekend, I would go to a matinee at A Noise Within in Glendale or the South Coast Repertory in Costa Mesa. I like Moliere, and I saw South Coast Repertory’s production of “The Misanthrope” several years ago, which I really liked. I saw “Tartuffe” at A Noise Within. I have seen several things at A Noise Within in Glendale and they are very good with classic theater.

Running Away From L.A.: I like to go on a trail run in either Mandeville or Topanga canyons. It’s only 15 minutes away, but it feels like teleportation, like you have been transported a hundred miles outside the city. I tend to take the little trails. I usually run by myself, and if I can make a circuit I will. Otherwise, it’s an up-and-back, and I keep an eye out for lizards and snakes.
