Crespi’s Amritraj to Face Chaminade

Crespi High senior tennis standout Stephen Amritraj, out all season because of a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee, will play his second match of the season today when the Celts play against Chaminade.

Amritraj, who will play at Duke next season, is ranked No. 4 in the world in International Tennis Federation junior doubles rankings and No. 97 in singles.

He will compete in the CIF Interscholastic doubles division of the upcoming Ojai tournament with Crespi junior Steven Bondy.

Amritraj, who was injured Jan. 25 during the Australian Open junior tournament, has been the No. 1 singles player for the Celts the last three years but played doubles in his return last week against Loyola, which handed Crespi an 11-7 loss.

“I’ve become a lot more motivated because of [the injury],” Amritraj said. “I’m just so happy to be doing simple things like going for a jog, which I used to hate to do.”
