What Are You Drinking?
“I tasted a wine that I’d had about 20 years in my cellar. It was a 1979 Domaine Ponsot Premier Cru Morey ‘Monts Luisants.’ It was a wine I’d sat on for a long time. I bought it from the owner, and it was a wonderful wine--I was not anticipating it to be as good as it was. It’s kind of funny how I ended up getting it. I had visited the owner while I was living in Burgundy and had the opportunity to meet his daughters--he had several wonderful daughters. I was thinking about asking one out on a date, and it turned out I had to chose between tasting one of his wines--which was a rarity in his town--or chatting up one of his daughters. I chose the wine. And I always wondered what would have happened if I’d had the chance to ask out one of his daughters. That thought occurred to me while I was drinking the wine. And it was good wine.”
