Museum Spotlights Theodore Roosevelt

The life and times of President Theodore Roosevelt will be celebrated with music and dramatic performances Saturday at Bolton Hall Museum.

The program, presented in honor of Presidents Day (Feb. 19), is being billed a “historical potpourri” of the late 1890s and early 1900s.

There will be several vignettes depicting life during the 26th president’s term as well as period music, including some audience sing-alongs, said Lloyd Hitt, president of the Little Landers Historical Society, which raises funds for the museum.

Admission is 35 cents, roughly the same price as a ticket 100 years ago.

Actor Richard Hilton came up with the idea after visiting the museum, which was built in 1913, Hitt said.

Since it’s Presidents Day, “we try to tie in something historical,” Hitt said. “We’re always trying to stir up interest in the museum.”

“A Cameo of Teddy Roosevelt and Music of the Era: A Splendid and Curious Company of Singers and Players” will begin at 1 p.m. Saturday at Bolton Hall Museum, 10110 Commerce Ave. Seating is unreserved but limited to about 60.

Those who attend also may view the museum’s current exhibit, “A Patchwork History of the San Fernando Valley.”
