Impeachment Trial Moves Forward
Lawyers for New Hampshire Chief Justice David Brock tried to get charges against him dismissed in a preliminary hearing leading up to his impeachment trial. Attorney Michael Madigan argued for dismissal of a count charging that Brock made an improper call to a lower court judge in 1987. Madigan contended that even if the allegation were true, the episode would not warrant impeachment. “It’s not even alleged in this article that this call was made to try to influence the case,” Madigan told the 22 state senators who will decide Brock’s fate if he is tried next month. Brock, 64, has been chief justice since 1986. Votes on dismissing charges were expected Tuesday or Wednesday.
