Police Take Sixth in Baker to Vegas Race
The Oxnard Police Department took sixth place last weekend in the annual Baker to Vegas Relay Run, a statewide competition pitting teams of law enforcement officers against each other in a 120-mile race through the Mojave Desert.
Oxnard, which has competed in the race since 1996, faced 16 other departments in the category of agencies with up to 300 officers. Twenty officers made up Oxnard’s team, and each took turns running various legs of the race. The group finished in 16 hours and 17 minutes.
The participants practiced throughout the year to prepare for the race, entering various other 5K and 10K competitions, including the Los Angeles Marathon.
