Luis Aguilar; Singer and Star of Mexican Movies and TV
Luis Aguilar, the Mexican singer and film star known as the Wild Rooster, has died. He was 79.
Aguilar died Friday in Mexico City of a heart attack, the news agency Notimex reported. He had a history of heart problems in recent years.
Aguilar got the nickname Wild Rooster from the title of one of his most popular films.
Among his other Spanish-language motion pictures were “Full Steam Ahead” and “What Has That Woman Done for You?”
Aguilar was one of the most loved stars of the golden era of Mexican films and known for his contributions to ranchera music. He personified the Mexican charro.
He appeared in 155 motion pictures over more than five decades and became popular with audiences in Spain, Puerto Rico, Cuba and Peru as well as in Mexico.
In his later years, Aguilar devoted himself to television, appearing on several series.
In 1993, the National Assn. of Mexican Actors awarded him the Eduardo Arozamena medal in honor of his 50 years in show business.
Aguilar is survived by his wife, Rosario Doblado, and his children, Ana Luisa, Fernanda and Luis.
