Lili Haydn, “Lili,” Atlantic * *
The young L.A. violinist flexes her versatility, melding folk, funk, jazz, pop, rock, samples and bits of electronics into a surprisingly cohesive, self-produced debut. Her two-year Viper Room residency has yielded a sprawling yet tightknit ensemble that nimbly negotiates the layers. Haydn’s high-pitched vocals may not appeal to some listeners, however, and at times her violin sounds equally shrill in the mix.
