Actor Paul Sorvino’s movie, “Money Talks,” opens Aug. 22
Big Night: For Italian, I like Marino restaurant on Melrose near Paramount almost as much as any other place. But I also love cooking at home. And I like doing my own grocery shopping. I go to Pavilions on Santa Monica Boulevard and Chalet Gourmet on Sunset. For my Italian ingredients I go to La Bottega on Santa Monica and Sweetzer.
*
Staying Fit: I play tennis on my court with friends or with my kids if they’re in town [Mira, 28; Amanda, 25; and Michael, 19]. After that, I go to Jerry’s Famous Deli for lunch--something nice and low-cal like a turkey sandwich. I’ve lost 40 pounds this year and I want to lose 20 more, so I have to watch my calories.
*
Wordplay: First thing in the morning I do the New York Times crossword puzzle. My fastest time on the daily is six minutes. Sunday can go to two hours or never. It’s really an event.
*
Play Time: I play nine-ball pool. I also play piano, both classical and ragtime.
*
Renaissance Man: I draw and paint almost every day. I’m doing a study of the actress Carol Alt right now, who is a buddy. If Mira is in town, we love to go to museums together, especially if there are special shows at the L.A. County Museum or the Getty. There is a fabulous Rembrandt at the Getty that is burned into my memory. I’m also a professional opera singer. I enjoy listening to recordings and I sing every day. But it is not a very rich time for singing, so I don’t go out to the opera often. Opera now is more about the production than the voices.
