Galleries and Shops Prepare for Art ‘Stroll’

In an event modeled on Ventura’s successful Artwalk series, 16 Ojai galleries and nine shops and restaurants will participate Saturday in “Art Ojai . . . A Summer Stroll.”

The event will enable people to walk between 25 venues within a six-block area meeting artists and viewing their work.

“Ojai is considered an art mecca, but we haven’t always promoted ourselves in that manner,” said Hallie Katz, chairwoman of the Art Stroll Committee. “It is one of our strong points and we need to highlight our artists and their galleries to locals as well as tourists.”

Several new galleries have recently opened in the city and more are on the way so the timing has never been better for such an event, she said.

Artists taking part include cartoonist Sergio Aragones of MAD Magazine fame, ceramist Beatrice Wood and painter David Serrano.

Stroll maps will be available at every participating gallery and business and the Ojai Visitors Information Center, 150 W. Ojai Ave.
