Deputies Seek Rape Suspect Who Escaped From Jail Cell
Sheriff’s deputies searched Monday for a rape suspect who escaped from a Lennox jail over the weekend while detainees were being moved from a holding cell to the regular lockup.
Rigoberto Lopez, 27, of Lennox slipped away from a group of 10 detainees and fled the station about 11:30 a.m. Saturday, said Lt. Bob Hudson.
Lopez and the other men had been in a temporary holding cell while their regular cells were being cleaned.
The escapee might not have been detained even if someone else had been in the hallway, Hudson said, because he was wearing a lime-green uniform that identified him as a trusty, or low-risk prisoner brought into the station to perform maintenance work. Lopez had been given the uniform while his street clothes were being examined for evidence.
Lopez is described as a Latino, 5 feet, 6 inches tall, 160 pounds, with a mustache and a gang tattoo, LNX13, on his chin.
