INDOOR SOCCER : Strong Second Half Gives the Splash a Victory Over Detroit

The Splash scored four goals in the second half to beat the Detroit Neon, 8-5, Thursday in a Continental Indoor Soccer League game in front of 9,112 in Auburn Hills, Mich.

The score was tied, 4-4, at the half, but good defense and strong goalkeeping by Ruben Fernandez held Detroit (1-13) to one goal in the second half. Fernandez had 19 saves in the game.

Doug Neely scored three goals to lead the Splash (8-7). Jose Vasquez added two. Each team had 31 shots on goal.

Bernie Lilavois, Raeffaele Ruotoio and Denis Hamlett also scored for the Splash.

The victory marked the start of the second half of the season for the Splash, which will play in San Jose on Saturday, then Sunday in Sacramento.
