Alan Knipe, a former member of the U.S. national volleyball team and a two-time All-American at Cal State Long Beach, has been named men’s coach at Golden West College.
Knipe, 24, a 1987 Marina High graduate, replaces John Wallace, who resigned to take a full-time assistant coaching position with the Pepperdine women’s team.
It’s the first head coaching position for Knipe, who said he can build a winning program with local players.
“There’s a great pool to pull players from here in Orange County,” he said.
Knipe left the national team earlier this month and is playing on the Bud four-player beach tour.
