GM May Drop Chevrolet Beretta, Corsica: General Motors Corp. said it plans to stop making the cars by 1997 as it consolidates vehicle platforms and underbody designs and as it cuts costs, according to Automotive News, a weekly trade publication. When introduced in early 1987 for 1988, the Beretta and Corsica were hailed by Chevrolet as its best-made cars since 1955. Although the cars have averaged annual sales of about 265,000 a year, they were plagued by a series of recalls.
