*** E, “A Man Called (E),” Polydor. The single-letter moniker smacks of gimmickry, but there’s nothing contrived about the music. This is simple, sincere power pop, full of chord progressions and choruses so familiar and appealing you’ll swear you’ve heard it all before, the last time you played your favorite World Party album. The hooks in “Hello Cruel World” aren’t new, but E makes them his own with breathy vocals and witty lyrics.
