Abortion Ban May Divide Rich, Poor
Michael Schrage’s column, “Abortion Ban Could Be Boon to Drug Firms” (April 23), just scratched the surface. The ban would be a boon to many industries.
Think of the revitalized illegal abortion-mill industry, the private hospitals for rich girls and women, the coat-hanger industry, the mortuary industry--there is no end to the list.
There is no question that abortions should be prevented, but there have always been abortions: hospitals for rich women, back-alley butchers for the poor ones. That is the real issue. Should poor women have medical care comparable to the care available for rich ones? I think yes.
