Gerome Ragni; Co-Wrote Broadway Musical “Hair”
Gerome Ragni, 48, who co-wrote and starred in the Broadway musical “Hair.” Introduced in New York in 1967, the show Ragni called the “American tribal love-rock musical” ran successfully on Broadway, and in Los Angeles, London, Munich, Stockholm and Copenhagen. Because it contained nudity and satirical references to religion and morality, however, Mexican officials closed the show after its 1969 opening in Acapulco and deported Ragni, his co-writer James Rado, and the entire cast.
