‘Hot Lips’ of ‘M.A.S.H.’ Gets Hollywood Star
Loretta Swit, who achieved stardom portraying Maj. Margaret (Hot Lips) Houlihan in the landmark television series “M.A.S.H.,” was honored Friday with the 1,898th star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
During the midday ceremony sponsored by the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce, Swit was also recognized for her civic and philanthropic efforts, including her involvement in the campaign to erect a memorial for Vietnam War nurses and her work on behalf of animals.
She also was honored with a proclamation from Mayor Tom Bradley declaring Loretta Swit Day in Los Angeles.
About 100 people, including such friends as actor Earl Holliman, attended the ceremony. Swit’s star is between those of Robert Mitchum and Dorothy Lamour.
The 51-year-old Swit earned two best-supporting actress Emmy Awards, in 1980 and 1982 respectively, for her role in “M.A.S.H.,” one of the top-rated series in TV history during its 11-year run on CBS-TV.
