San Clemente : Event Tonight Seeks Amphitheater Funds
San Clemente residents can help to build a permanent amphitheater to house the city’s annual La Cristianita pageant and enjoy a barbecue dinner as well by attending a benefit tonight at the festival grounds off Camino de Los Mares.
Pageant organizers hope to raise $2 million to build a permanent facility for the annual play, which reenacts the arrival of Spanish missionaries to Southern California. About 4,000 people attended this year’s pageant, which ended last Sunday.
“As soon as we can get $1 million, we’ll begin the first phase of construction,” said Bertha Henry Taylor, one of the pageant’s organizers. “We’ve got a little money now, but it’s not enough to get started.”
Tickets for the event, which lasts from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., are $25 per person and can be purchased at the festival grounds. For reservations, call (714) 492-1311.
