San Francisco Mayor Dianne Feinstein describes her childhood as a “very brutal” time when her alcoholic mother beat her and her sister and often kicked them out of the house. Feinstein, 51, was quoted by Working Woman magazine as saying her mother yanked the two girls’ hair and paddled them without cause. She said her mother suffered from a childhood case of encephalitis that resulted in an early deterioration of the brain. “It (Feinstein’s childhood) was hard, but we all got through all right,” the story quoted Feinstein as saying.
