Boys’ basketball: Windward wins Division V championship

SACRAMENTO -- Los Angeles Windward won its first state championship in boys’ basketball today, knocking off Alameda St. Joseph Notre Dame, 69-53, in the Division V final at Arco Arena.
The Wildcats’ three big-time players -- UCLA-bound Anthony Stover, Michigan-bound Darius Morris and sophomore Wesley Saunders -- came through with outstanding performances.
Morris scored 13 of his game-high 25 points in the fourth quarter. Saunders made seven of eight shots and finished with 21 points. Stover had 14 points on six-for-eight shooting, seven rebounds and six blocks. Windward out rebounded St. Joseph, 37-20.
It was Windward’s 19th consecutive victory. The Wildcats finished 29-6.
