Phil Mickelson has played 11 holes of his first round at the Northern Trust Open at Riviera Country Club Thursday and so far his golf continues to be in a good place.
Mickelson, who won last week at the AT&T Pebble Beach tournament, is in second through his first 11 holes Thursday, four under par and a shot behind leader J.B. Holmes, who has played 12 holes at five-under so far.
Also playing well so far in the first round is Sergio Garcia of Spain. Garcia, who last played here in 2008 and whose best finish in his six appearances here was a sixth-place finish in 2007, is two-under through 11 holes.
Defending champion Aaron Baddeley has finished his opening round with a two-over par 73.
