Kings’ Nick Nickson named to Southern California Sports Broadcasters Hall of Fame

Los Angeles Kings play-by-play broadcaster Nick Nickson has been voted into the Southern California Sports Broadcasters Hall of Fame. Fellow Kings voice and dual Hall of Fame member Bob Miller (Southern California and National Hockey League versions) announced Nickson’s award.

Nickson is in his 28th season with the Kings and in his 19th as the radio voice of the team.

Also receiving SCSB honors at the Jan. 26 awards luncheon at Lakeside Golf Club in Toluca Lake will be Los Angeles Times columnist Eric Sondheimer, the Prep Award; Tony Verna, inventor of television’s instant replay while with CBS, the Lifetime Achievement Award; Bryan Clay, a Southern California resident who won the Olympic Games’ decathlon in Beijing, the 2008 Special Achievement Award; Josh Rawitch, vice president of communications for the Dodgers, the High Five Award; and Jerry Clark, executive director of the SCSB and former sports reporter, the Good Guy Award.

In addition, at the awards luncheon, winners of the awards for radio and TV broadcasting excellence for the year 2008 will be announced in nine categories, including play-by-play, color commentary, foreign language sportscasting, radio talk show host, sports anchor staffs and -- new this year -- pregame and postgame commentary.
