Bryan Cranston’s ‘Breaking Bad’ breakthrough

Bryan Cranston used to be known for playing the buffoonish father on ‘Malcolm In the Middle.’ Though he won raves for his wacky portrayal, he was often overshadowed on the Fox sitcom by co-stars Jane Kaczmarek, who played his no-nonsense wife, and Frankie Muniz, who played the boy genius Malcolm.
But Cranston was never bothered by being overlooked, saying he was pleased to make a living as an actor and to be working with such a talented ensemble. He even used to joke about getting his living room mantle ready for a bunch of Emmy awards.
He can joke no longer about Emmy awards or being in the background. Cranston this month started the third season of AMC’s quirky, dark drama ‘Breaking Bad’ as one of the most prominent and honored actors working on TV today -- he’s won two consecutive Emmy awards for outstanding lead actor in a dramatic series for his portrayal of Walter H. White, the high school chemistry teacher turned meth dealer.
Playing the unlikely antihero is a ‘dream come true,’ Cranston says. But it is a challenge both physically and emotionally to take on White’s evolving character and the show’s dark tones. To read more about Cranston and ‘Breaking Bad,’ go here.
