After NBC’s ‘The Voice’ packed a surprise punch in ratings, the singing competition is adding more voices to its stable of star judges, according to our sister blog Show Tracker.
NBC announced Friday that R&B diva Monica, country singer Reba McEntire, dance-pop singer/songwriter Sia Furler and producer Adam Blackstone will join the series as advisors to coaches Christina Aguilera, Adam Levine, Blake Shelton and Cee Lo Green.
Viewers will get to see the advisors once the show enters the next phase of the compeition: the ‘battles’ round, where two contestants from each team go head-to-head in a duet of the same song to determine elimination.
McEntire, Monica, Furler and Blackstone were handpicked by the judges given their relationships: Sia crafted songs for Aguilera’s “Bionic,” Blackstone is Maroon 5’s music director, and Green and Shelton have touted close friendships with Monica and McEntire, respectively.
All of the advisors are expected to help select songs for contestants and provide performance advice over the course of four episodes.
The contestants –- who are initially picked via a blind audition –- are vying for a record deal with Universal Music Group, and $100,000.
